Missing Nursing Home Resident Found Safe In Chester

Lima, Pa. (CBS) -- A resident of the Fair Acres nursing home in Delaware County decided to walk away from his caretakers during a shopping trip on Monday.

He turned up on Wednesday, safe and sound, at a library in Chester, Pa.  He was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for evaluation but seemed to be in good condition.

Walter Bryant, 67, took a bus to Walmart in Upper Chichester with a caretaker right behind him, but he darted away when he got off the bus, according to Fair Acres administrator Joe Dougherty.

"Mr. Bryant ran down the street towards an Arby's, crossed over the Conchester Highway -- which is a busy highway out there -- and our staff member could not follow because of the traffic," said Dougherty.

Bryant had $50 in cash with him for his shopping trip, and Dougherty hoped that Bryant would come home when his money ran out.  He used to live out of a car in Chester and stayed in homeless shelters there until he was admitted to the county facility.
