She's First To Declare For Montgomery County Council Race

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A Lower Merion commissioner has become the first Republican to toss her hat into the ring in what's expected to be a hotly contested county commissioner race in Montgomery County next year.

Jenny Brown is in her second term as a Lower Merion commissioner. The 44-year-old attorney is looking for the endorsement of the Montgomery County Republican Committee and would like to run as a team with Commissioner Bruce Castor.  She says she sees the county on a downward spiral.

"Since 2002, since the Republicans lost the majority, the debt has gone from $56 million to over $120 million, and that simply is not sustainable," she said.

Brown says she wants to cut spending and shrink county government.

Brown adds, however, she will not continue in the race if she doesn't get the party's endorsement.
