Alessi: Ethical and Radical At The Museum Of Art

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - 'Alessi: Ethical and Radical' examines the innovative work of the manufacturer of household objects that blend function and art, most notably in the U-S, the fanciful Whistling Bird Teakettle, designed by Michael Graves.

Radio Edit:

Kathryn Hiesinger is curator of European decorative arts after 1700.

"But he had real functional and pragmatic concerns to create a stable base and to keep the handle and spout away from the flame."

The exhibit is set up like a large kitchen so that visitors can realize, says Hiesinger

"...that they can have beautiful objects for everyday in their home and they should think about what they're using."
