Need A Job? Check Out The Feds

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- We all know people looking for work and among the most disappointed about being unemployed are college grads. Tell them that the federal government may be the best place to get a job these days.

The assumption is that those positions are in Washington; however, 86% of the federal workforce is not in D.C. and Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland are in the region with most federal opportunities.

On the Partnership for Public Service website is information for people of all ages and levels to find interesting positions. There are at present 2.1 million government employees and yet 28 departments have job openings. Staff is being sought for about 273,000 jobs starting on October 1, 2009 through September 20, 2012.

According to a recent article in the Philadelphia Business Journal, Swarthmore College is among a small group of schools each awarded $5,000 to make students aware of career opportunities with the federal government. Find out about that effort and check www.ourpublicservice.org on the Web.
