Fitness Expert Says Lay Off The Second Helping Of Stuffing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The president of a local fitness retailer says it will take hours of exercise to work off a typical Thanksgiving Day dinner. So maybe it's best to work on controlling the calories.

Calculations released by the online fitness retailer "Smooth Fitness" say it will take up to five hours on a treadmill or an elliptical to work off the typical 1,645 calorie Thanksgiving dinner, which might include turkey and gravy, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, some casserole, a veggie or two, cranberry sauce, rolls, pumpkin pie and whipped cream.

Now, Smooth Fitness president and CEO William Olson says you might be able to avoid all of that exercise by following some pre-dinner tips, like exercising that morning or even holding off on seconds for a minute or two:

"It's sort of like you're on stimulus overload and you eat so quickly. And then you say, all right, I'm just going to right for that additional stuffing. And if you pace your meal."
