Hosting 'The Big Meal?' A Local Caterer Has Some Advice

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The holiday season can be a stressful time especially if you're hosting a big meal. A local caterer has a few tips to make hosting at your home a fun experience.

Caterer Steve Poses says there's no denying that holiday entertaining can get overwhelming:

"I think there are a series of reasons why it gets overwhelming and it really starts with not being clear about what your goals are. Your first goal should be that this should be fun for me. It shouldn't be a hassle."

He says you should be organized and not be shy about delegating tasks. In his 35 years of experience he's learned you don't need to have an extensive menu to have a great time:

"Don't be overly ambitious! This is not about iron chef coming to your home."

If you're not the one who's hosting the party, Poses emphasises:

"This is really an important message to everyone listening who's about to be a guest: DO NOT ARRIVE EARLY! If you arrive 20 minutes early, your host is not planning to have you there, you are an unwelcome guest. Another thing is stay out of the kitchen!"
