Conference Focuses On African American Men

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A local filmmaker and activist is holding a wide-ranging conference tomorrow focusing on African American males.

Kevin J. Sheaff says frankly he's had enough with the violence related to young African American males in Philadelphia, black-on-black crime, the high drop-out rate. His "For the Black Male" conference Saturday will be a town hall meeting, soliciting solutions from all aspects of the community.

And then, Sheaff says, "At the end of the discussion, people can go and get information about job training, they can get information about psychological services.  We're going to have employers there and employers who will have jobs for people, so they can get employed.  So this is more than just simply a discussion."

The "For the Black Male" conference is free and open to the public.  It's from noon until three Saturday at the African American Museum at 7th and Arch Streets.
