It’s The Mann Center Vs. The Hollywood Bowl

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Mann Center for the Performing Arts takes on the Hollywood Bowl in the fight for “Best Outdoor Concert Venue in North America”.

Sure the Hollywood Bowl is an icon.  Everyone from the Los Angeles Philharmonic to Sinatra to the Beatles has performed there.

But the Mann has the world famous Philadelphia Orchestra and, this past season, big names like Tony winning Idina Menzel from Wicked and Aretha Franklin performing with Condoleeza Rice.

The Mann’s Nancy Newman said acts like that earned the venue its first-ever nomination for the Pollstar Concert Industry Awards:

“Pollstar is considered the Bible of the rock and contemporary concert industry so it’s a great honor and I think just like the Academy Awards, the most important thing is that you’ve been nominated.”

Winners will be announced in February.

If they would only book performances from more main stream acts and do better marketing. Agreed its a great venue lousy location

The Mann maybe a great place for a concert or any performance for that manner. It has one major problem. Location, location, location. It is in one of the worse areas of the city. You take your chances parking anything better than a K-car there.
