Jury Deliberations Continue In Gym 'Spinning' Altercation

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Jury deliberations resume this morning in the case of a 63-year-old health club member charged with assaulting police after she refused to give up a spin cycle seat in South Philadelphia early this year.

The prosecution alleges defendant Carrol Shannon violated Bally's club policy, wouldn't get off of the stationary cycle, challenged the club to call police, and then challenged responding officers, telling them they would have to pull her off the bike.

When they tried, Shannon allegedly swung at officers, hitting one of them and biting the other before they used a nightstick and force to subdue and arrest her.

But the defense attorney, conceding cooler heads could have prevailed, says Shannon knew she hadn't done anything wrong, and when the officers tried to grab her off the bike, they had the audacity to strike her with sticks. According to the defense, this case didn't start right, and it couldn't end right.
