Local Non-Profit Nurses Ailing Dog Back To Health

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A local non-profit organization is nursing an injured dog back to health after it was found wandering the streets, having suffered what could be a stabbing attack.

Hope, an American Bulldog who was found Wednesday in the Spring Garden section of the city, appeared to have been stabbed in the chest. She is currently receiving medical care from Oporation Ava, located inside of the Doggy Style boutique on the 300 block of Market Street in Center City.

"Obviously she's been neglected and probably abused as well, but she's very friendly," said Ray Little, the Rescue Coordinator of Oporation Ava.

Due to the animal's poor condition and as many as 20 bite marks, it's believed 'Hope' was possibly involved in a dog fighting operation, though at this time it is unclear how she sustained the injuries.

"The ones on her legs, head and chest actually look more like dog bite wounds so she may have gotten into a fight with another dog," said Dr. LeAndra Thompson. "She's actually doing quite well and I do think she will be good enough to go up for adoption, hopefully within a week or two."
