Supermarket Asks Customers To Help Feed Needy Families

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A local supermarket has stepped in to help Philabundance restock its shelves, with your help.

If you shop at Giant supermarkets, beginning Friday through Sunday, you can help Philabundance and the families that it helps feed and not pick up one extra can. Marla Del Sorto, director of marketing and communications for Philabundance, explains:

"Customers at Giant can make a $5 or $10 donation at the register for a virtual bag of groceries.  The bags will be filled with food and it will provide a family a meal and it will help Philabundance restock our shelves."

A recent survey by Philabundance shows that more than 80-percent of the feeding agencies Philabundance helps have seen an increase in new clients asking for food help.
