Police: Woman Attacked, Raped In Cobbs Creek Park

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia police are investigating a reported assault and rape in the city’s Cobbs Creek section.

According to sources, the victim recently moved to the area and was walking home from the bus stop when she was attacked. Authorities say it happened at about 12:06 a.m. Monday near Ashland Avenue and Cobbs Creek Parkway.

The 24-year-old woman told police she was hit over the head and knocked unconscious and dragged into a basketball court at Cobbs Creek Park where she was raped.

Police say the woman notified police after the incident and she was taken to Temple University Hospital for treatment.

The victim described her attacker as a light-skinned black male who appeared to be between 18 and 20-years-old. She said he’s about 5’7’’ with a thin build and thick eyebrows. At the time of the attack, the suspect was wearing a black puffy sleeveless jacket, a grey hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

The incident remains under investigation.

Do the parks there closed after sundown? Are there Park Police there?
My comment will depend on the answer.

@Dumb Question… Of course I have wanted to go for a walk but at 12am anywhere is it too dangerous. It’s ashame we cannot go out whenever we want any anytime. I hope they catch the predator that did this.

@JustWondering: The article doesn’t exactly state that she was in the park before the incident. It states that she was “dragged in Cobbs Creek Park.” I think they meant “dragged into.”

  5. DUMB QUESTION says:

YOU NEVER JUST WANT TO GO FOR A WALK? IS THAT A CRIME? MANY TIMES I HAVE GONE FOR A WALK JUST TO DO SOMETHING.

  6. JustWondering says:

In no way, shape or form am I stating that is the woman’s fault but why would you be in a park at 12:06am?

    1. John says:

especially in philly, If youre going to walk late at night for whatever reason, at least carry some type of self-defense like pepper spray or a high lumen flashlight to temporarily blind the attacker if you don’t have CCWs permit for a firearm. it is better to pay a fine for an ” illegal” weapon rather than owing loans to hospitals, or even your own life. It is better to have it and not need than need it and not have it
