PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A massive sinkhole is causing major disruptions after opening up on a West Philadelphia street Friday afternoon.
63rd Street near City Avenue in Overbrook is closed indefinitely as crews work to replace the sinkhole.
The sinkhole, which is approximately 25×25 feet, opened up around 3 p.m. Friday.
Officials were forced to close 63rd Street between Route 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and City Avenue.
The Philadelphia City Streets Department will be repairing the sinkhole. After the sinkhole is repaired, a PennDOT contractor will prepare the roadway for resurfacing, which could take several days.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area.
