Delco Shoplifter Abandons Two-Year-Old Daughter

MORTON, Pa. (CBS) -- A Delaware County father remains on the loose after he abandoned his young daughter while allegedly shoplifting from a department store.

Police say Andrew Surplus was pushing his two-year-old daughter Aubrey in a stroller out of a Delaware County Kohl's store on Saturday when security guards tried to stop him for allegedly stealing coats worth $2,000. Surplus allegedly fled, leaving his daughter outside in her stroller.

Aubrey's mother, Jackie Walker, says she got a call from Surplus hours later her claiming he had no idea where Aubrey was.

Walker says she told police she was the mother of the child, but after being assured Aubrey was safe, she had to wait three more days until youth workers did a background check and a judge then granted her full custody.

Walker and her daughter were reunited Tuesday morning.

The 39-year-old Surplus remains on the loose after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
