Best Soft Pretzel? Philly Vendors Compete On Independence Mall

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — October is National Pretzel Month!  And to celebrate, a competition was held today at the Independence Visitors Center, where the public got to sample the wares and cast their vote in several pretzel categories.

Lauren Tosti of the Independence Visitor Center lists the competitors:

“The Philadelphia Soft Pretzel Company, Philly Soft Pretzel franchise, Federal Pretzel Baking Company, and A&A Soft Pretzel Baking Company.”

Sean Kean (above right), of the Philly Soft Pretzel Factory, describes some of the unusual shapes on their table:

(Sean Kean:)  “The Phillie Phanatic, which is about two feet long by one foot wide…”

(Durham:)  “It looks just like him!”

(Sean Kean:)  “I have to give the credit to my brother — he’s the artistic one.”

(Durham:)  “How do you do that?”

(Brian Kean, at left in photo:)  “After you twist thousands and thousands of pretzels, you start to see shapes!”

Jessie stopped by with her two children:

“Samantha loved the chocolate-covered pretzel, Luke loved the cinnamon.”

A fun time was had by all!
