Our Friendly Town Gets Friendlier With Phillies' Success
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Do people seem nicer since Roy Halladay threw his no-hitter? It seems the good vibes are rolling through Philadelphia these days.
Brett Mapp, a lifelong Phillies fan, says he's seen a major attitude adjustment in people this week:
"They're a whole lot nicer. It just makes us feel good. Everyone is a little extra friendly."
Temple University pscyhologist Frank Farley says, "Sports can do that." He adds, "A sports team can sort of capture the mood of a city, and we put so much into it, so much of our aspirations and our excitement."
So that, when things are going well, people are a lot more tolerant and friendly.
(Woman:) "I was even nice to my friend's son who lives near New York and is talking trash already about the Yankees. And I was even nice to him."
