Nutter Defers On Current PHA Board Members

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Mayor Nutter says he is not -- at least not yet -- joining in the chorus of those demanding the resignation of members of the PHA board.  The mayor's comments came this morning on KYW Newsradio's "Ask the Mayor" program.

Now that the PHA board has jettisoned Carl Greene as director (see related story), some in town -- such as the editorial board of the Daily News -- are calling for the board members themselves to resign.

A listener asked Mayor Nutter if he too wanted the board's resignation, and Nutter replied that he wouldn't make any such call until the results of a federal probe of PHA are known:

"Their investigation is not complete.  I'd certainly like to see the results of that investigation, to see exactly what the board was doing and was not doing."

Nutter controls one seat on the board, currently filled by Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell (third from left in photo), who cast the only vote in favor of retaining Greene.  Nutter says he'll have further conversations with Blackwell about her continued service on the PHA board.
