Montco Accountant Admits Stealing From Little League

A former supervisor in Whitpain Township (Montgomery County), Pa. has admitted in court that he embezzled money from a client in his role as a certified public accountant, and from a local Little League team, where he was treasurer.

KYW's Brad Segall reports that William McKernan III pleaded guilty to several theft counts, for stealing about $1.5 million from the client and nearly $60,000 from the Lower Gwynedd Little League.

Prosecutors say he would make electronic transfers of money into his own account and then use the money for personal expenses and vacations.

Defense attorney Bruce Castor:

"Well, he's very embarrassed and tremendously remorseful for his actions.  He was drinking heavily at the time and he was living beyond his means."

Castor says the 44-year-old Blue Bell man has been going through treatment and has paid back all of the money to the Little League and about half to his former client. He expects McKernan will do some jail time, but he's hoping for a county sentence with work release.
