A Burlington County man has been charged with the stabbing death of a Deptford woman whose body was found in South Jersey.
KYW’s Mark Abrams reports 28-year-old Stephen Headley (left) of the 500 block of Station Road in Florence has been charged with the murder of Nicole Ayers.
The 22-year-old’s body was found late Monday morning in a wooded area behind a soccer field near Route 206 and Buddtown Road in Southampton Township, Burlington County by township public works employees.
A medical examiner’s autopsy concluded Ayers (below right), a former high school softball star, died of multiple stab wounds.
Headley is being treated at a hospital for multiple injuries he suffered after authorities say he fled from a meeting on Monday night with his mother and grandmother. The prosecutor’s office says he ran from his mom’s house in Pemberton and was hit by a pickup truck.
Headley’s bail has been set at $750,000.
