A federal jury has awarded $21 million to a New Hampshire woman blinded and scarred by a prescription drug manufactured by a Philadelphia-based firm.

KYW’s Ian Bush reports that Karen Bartlett suffered extreme burns to her skin, mucus membranes, and eyes after taking the anti-inflammatory drug Sulindac for shoulder pain.
After three days of deliberations, the jury found that the drugmaker, Philadelphia-based Mutual Pharmaceutical Company — now called URL Pharma — was liable for her injuries and should compensate her.
The jury found the company should have known the drug was unreasonably dangerous to consumers.
The victim’s attorney says the $21 million verdict was the largest ever in a product liability case in the state.
The company did not immediately return a call for comment.
