The man who’s credited for helping Apolo Ohno reach legendary status is now making his mark right here in Philadelphia.

KYW’s Kevin Scholla reports Ohno is the most decorated US athlete in winter Olympics history, but he didn’t achieve his success alone.

John Schaeffer, a world champion in power lifting and kickboxing turned sports science trainer, has been extremely instrumental in Ohno’s career. They’ve worked together for eight years.

Schaeffer has the winning formula and athletes in several sports are benefiting.

The programs focus on nutrition, as well as technique, and general training. Along with Ohno, Schaeffer works with a host of Olympians, fighters, and ball players including Philadelphia Eagle Lesean McCoy.
