New Jersey governor Chris Christie paid a visit today to the DRPA amid rumors that a change in leadership at the embattled agency was afoot.

KYW’s Mike DeNardo reports that there were reports that Christie was going to fire John Matheussen, CEO of the Delaware River Port Authority.

But that did not happen.  Besides, the governor does not have the authority to do that.

Instead, at a late morning press conference (above), Christie said he wants Matheussen to be an “agent of change” in the culture of the DRPA.

The governor said he was upset that the Authority last week tabled some planned reforms, supposedly including a ban on political activity by DRPA employees.

Christie says if he does not see more action soon, there will be changes at the DRPA.  He said his patience is not unlimited.

He said he came down to the DRPA’s headquarters in Camden to talk to Matheussen directly.

At the governor’s press conference, Matheussen (in grey suit in photo) said he would be working on behalf of the DRPA to regain the public’s trust.
