COLLINGSWOOD, NJ (CBS 3) ― A soldier from Collingswood, New Jersey has returned home after a tour of duty in Iraq.
Spc. Michelle Smith returned to her Camden County town Sunday a little before 8:00 a.m. In the Army, she serves as a military police officer in the 558th MP Company.
“It’s indescribable, the feeling you get when you have all of these people, some who I don’t even know, coming out to support and thank me for what I do. It feels great,” said Smith.
Smith is a 2007 graduate of Collingswood High School.
“It is time. We’ve been there (Iraq) too long and it’s time for everyone to come home now,” said Gina Smith.
Combat operations in Iraq will officially conclude this week. On September 1, a new operation begins that will involve 50,000 US troops staying in Iraq in non-combat roles.
