Beachgoers in New Jersey Proceed with Caution

Hurricane Danielle is way out in the Atlantic. The storm, which has been downgraded to category one, is still stirring up dangerous rip currents at the Jersey shore.

KYW'S Mike Dougherty reports Danielle is about 300 miles east of Bermuda and forecast to stay far away from the island, but her 105 mile-per-hour winds are causing rough waters locally.

In Margate, beach goers, like this father and son pair, were swimming cautiously:

(Son:) "It would always pull me under and I get tossed around under the water."

(Dad:) "I keep an eye on him and also keep in touch with the lifeguards to make sure -- they'll let you know when it's safe to go in the water."

Some surfers in the area, though, are stoked. The say waves like this don't come to the East Coast very often.
