OK, vanilla or chocolate? Most people pick one instantly, some like them both, but when you’re standing in line waiting for ice cream, do you ever think about tropical plants you have to thank for your favorite flavor? Probably not, but vanilla pods come from a special orchid called Vanilla planifolia and chocolate is made from the cocoa beans that grow on the plant called Theobroma cacao. And this weekend you can smell, taste and learn more about both of these famous flavors at the Chocolate and Vanilla Family Festival at the Camden Children’s Garden.
You can join the fun on Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 4 – there’ll be crafts and activities for kids, as well as sniffing and tasting of all kinds of treats both vanilla and chocolate – and of course, you’ll get to vote for your favorite. The Camden Children’s Garden is easy to get to – it’s right next to the Adventure Aquarium. For details and directions, click on these links:
