Escaped Prisoner Returned to Philadelphia

A man police describe as a dangerous murderer is back in custody, after leading investigators on a week-long chase which ended Friday evening in Harrisburg.

KYW's Jim Melwert reports 22-year-old Omar Roane broke out of a prison van last Saturday at Frankford and Cottman Avenues, as he was being transported from Homicide to Curran Fromhold Correctional Facility (see previous story).

Homicide Captain James Clark says they're relieved to have a potentially dangerous man off the streets:

"After an intense man-hunt by the Philadelphia police and the US Marshall's Office, they tracked him to his cousin's house, a location in Harrisburg, PA, at about 9:30pm, they surrounded the house, and he came out without incident to police."

Roane is back in Philadelphia, in addition to charges he murdered a 17-year-old last June, he's also facing a felony charge of escape.
