Philadelphia police are seeking two men who followed an elderly woman into a center city high-rise building earlier this week and, while one distracted a security guard, the other assaulted and robbed her in an elevator.

KYW’s Mark Abrams reports that according to investigators, the two well-dressed bandits identified their target on the street, and can be seen on surveillance camera video (above) following her into 1500 Locust Street.

Police say the first man followed the 93-year-old woman right by a security desk where a guard was preparing to stop him when his accomplice approached and began asking the guard for information about a supposed tenant in the building.
Lt. Frank Vanore says the video shows the woman and the one bandit getting on the elevator. Vanore says he grabbed her pocketbook, found a smaller purse inside, then began hitting the woman.
He says as the elevator door opened again, he kicked her out, throwing her to the ground:
“Anybody who’s going to pick a 93-year-old woman who’s defenseless in this case, we’d really like to know who these individuals are. And I’m sure we’re going to put a lot of effort into finding them.”
Vanore says the robbery netted six dollars. The woman was treated at a hospital and released.
Police described the two suspects as follows:
“The Distractor” – African-American man, about 40-50 years old, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighing about 180 pounds. He was well dressed, carrying a brown suit jacket and wearing a brown or tan plaid shirt, khaki pants, and dark shoes.
“The Robber” — African-American man, about 30-40-years old, about 6 foot 2 inches tall, and weighing 195 pounds. He was wearing a long-sleeved, button-down maroon shirt, black shoes, a baseball-style polo cap, and dark glasses with metal frames. He was also carrying a dark blue bag.
Anyone with information about either man should call Philadelphia police at 215-686-3093 or 911.
