Phils Finally Win at Citi Field

It took 5 tries, but the combination of 8 shutout innings by Phils starter Roy Halladay(W, 15-8), and 3 costly Mets fielding errors, equaled a Phils 4-0 shutout win over the Mets at Citi Field. Placido Polanco knocking in the Phils only earned run, with an rbi single in the 3rd. 2(Tejada/Wright) of New York's 3 errors would allow 3 Phils runners to score. Halladay's final numbers: 8 innings, 0 runs on 4 hits, 7 strikeouts, 0 walks. Ryan Madson escaped a bases loaded jam to close out the 9th.

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Roy Halladay twirled eight scoreless innings to help the Philadelphia Phillies take a 4-0 win over the New York Mets in the second of a three-game set.

Halladay (15-8) gave up just four hits and struck out seven to win his fifth straight start and added a hit and a run scored. He has now gone at least six innings in 51 straight road starts.

Placido Polanco had a pair of hits and an RBI while Shane Victorino added two hits and a run scored for the Phillies, who have won three of their last four and recovered from R.A. Dickey's one-hitter in a 1-0 loss in the series opener.

Coupled with Atlanta's loss to Los Angeles on Saturday, the Phillies now sit two games back of Atlanta for first place in the NL East.

Jose Reyes' triple was the lone extra-base hit for the Mets, who had won three of four coming into the contest.

Pat Misch (0-1), making his first start of the season, went six innings and was charged with four runs -- one earned -- on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Before the game, the Mets activated closer Francisco Rodriguez from the restricted list after he served a two-game suspension handed down by the team due to an incident on Wednesday when he allegedly hit his girlfriend's father, Carlos Pena.

Following the incident, he was taken into custody by police and later released. He issued an apology to the team and fans earlier on Saturday, then threw a scoreless ninth inning.

After 38 scoreless innings at Citi Field this season, the Phils finally worked a run across in the third. With two outs, Halladay punched a single off the glove of Reyes. Jimmy Rollins followed with a single and Polanco's base hit plated Halladay for a 1-0 lead.

Halladay retired the first nine batters he faced before Reyes led off the fourth with a triple. Halladay, though, stranded him there as he got Angel Pagan to groundout and then struck out David Wright and Carlos Beltran to end the frame.

The Phillies added another run in the fifth. With one out, Rollins walked and Polanco followed with a single. Raul Ibanez then hit a sharp grounded to second that looked like a double play ball, but Ruben Tejada's throw to second went into the outfield and Rollins scored for a 2-0 advantage.

Philly padded its lead in the sixth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Rollins hit a simple grounder to third that went between the legs of Wright, allowing two runs to score for a 4-0 lead.

After stranding a Met on second in the sixth, Halladay set the Mets down in order in the seventh.

Chris Carter punched a two-out, pinch-hit single in the eighth, but Halladay struck out Reyes to end the frame.

Ryan Madson came on in the ninth to close things and got the first out, but then gave up consecutive singles to Wright and Beltran. Madson then struck out Ike Davis, but hit Fernando Davis with a pitch to load the bases. However, he struck out Josh Thole to end the game.
