A new survey outlines the key reasons for foreclosures in Pennsylvania and surprisingly, they’re not tied to the lending crisis.
KYW’s Lynne Adkins reports a survey of 500 Pennsylvanians encountering foreclosure in the past year finds that losing a job, and then being hit with unexpected medical bills, family issues or other unexpected problems are the main factors leading to home loss.
Joel Searby, executive vice president for Strategic Guidance Systems, which conducted the study, explains how this information can help:
“It helps us to understand that this is not just about lending, this is about this is much more tied to the economic situation and as those looking at solutions to this problem are trying to gauge the best way to go forward this is very, very important information to them.
He adds that most didn’t know there was help available from the state and federal government that could have helped them prevent foreclosure.
