More than a dozen Boy Scouts from the Philadelphia area had to be taken to the hospital today after a bus collision this morning in Maryland.
KYW’s Ian Bush reports that the accident happened about 11:30am on Route 301 in La Plata, Md., about 30 miles southeast of Washington, DC.
A spokeswoman for the Cradle of Liberty Council says that two buses in a nine-vehicle caravan collided. The scouts were returning to the Delaware Valley from the Boy Scouts of America’s National Jamboree in Virginia.
Eighteen people were taken to the hospital, though the spokeswoman says none was seriously hurt. By this afternoon all but two had been released.
Officials say parents were notified and arrangements were made to get the scouts back home.
There was no immediate word from the Charles County sheriff on what led up to the crash.
