DeGeneres Admits She's Too Soft for "Idol"

Ellen DeGeneres has  announced that she's leaving her role as judge on "American Idol" after just one season.  KYW's Bob Nelson reports that she thinks it's just not the kind of job that's right for her.

DeGeneres, who was hired last year to replace Paula Abdul on the show, says she soon discovered it was not the kind of job for her -- eliminating contestants under such circumstances:

"It's really tough for me to walk that line of being the person that gives bad news, 'cause I hate hurting people's feelings.  So that, I think, is the hardest part -- giving the people that are disillusioned some eye-opening remarks.

"They feel we are crushing their dreams and they're never going to have a career.  And this is just one experience.  They're not used to rejection, and that's what this town is all about."

DeGeneres says she wanted to put a more positive face on contestants' rejection.
