Another Blown Save by Lidge

After a Carlos Ruiz rbi single in the top of the 9th, put the Phils ahead of the Nationals 5-4, Brad Lidge enters for the save opportunity, and surrenders a 3 run homerun to Ryan Zimmerman, and Washington wins in walk-off fashion 7-5. For Lidge that's blown save #4. Phils blow a chance to gain ground on 1st place Atlanta who fell to the Reds 5-2.

Mike Morse led off the bottom of the 9th with a single, and moved to second on Nyjer Morgan's sac bunt. Adam Kennedy followed with a walk, and Zimmerman then crushed a fastball over the middle of the plate over the center-field wall for the 7-5 win.

Phils starter Joe Blanton went 6 innings, surrendering 4 runs on 9 hits, a walk, and 8 strikeouts. Blanton bailed out by Dominic Brown in the 6th, with a diving catch in right field, preventing what would have been a 2 run triple. Raul Ibanez knotted the game at 4 in the 7th, with a 2 run homerun(10).

The Phils have now lost 5 consecutive road series. With Atlanta losing, the Phils remain 3 1/2 games back in the NL East. Cole Hamels takes the mound in game 3 Sunday afternoon at 1:30, looking to aviod the sweep. You can hear the play-by-play on 610wip.
