KYW’s Karin Phillips reports that the Florida Modern Day Slavery Museum is travelling the country to focus on what it calls modern-day slavery. Oscar Otzay of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, a human rights farm workers organization out of South Florida, talks about the centerpiece of the exhibit, which is parked right outside the Independence Visitors Center.

Julia Perkins translates for Otzay:

“It’s replica of a truck that was used in the seventh federally prosecuted slavery case in the last 12 years.  It was from a 2008 prosecution in which workers were locked in overnight to be available to their bosses to pick tomatoes the next day.”

Inside the truck, details about that case and outside, films and posters calling for more public awareness about the conditions of fruit pickers in South Florida.
