Israeli Chopper Crash in Romania Kills Several Officers

Six Israeli air force personnel including two senior officers were killed aboard a CH-35 Sea Stallion helicopter that crashed during an aerial exercise in Romania.  An official Romanian observer on board also lost his life.

KYW middle east bureau chief Jay Bushinsky in Jerusalem reports the military command here said such flights were routine, occurred in various countries and that the terrain over which the helicopter flew was of special interest.

According to the Federation of American Scientists, the CH-35 "is designed for the transportation of equipment, supplies, and personnel during the assault phase of an amphibious operation and subsequent operations ashore."
