SEPTA’s new naming plans took effect on Sunday — Monday is the first weekday that commuters will face a regional rail system without the R designations.
KYW’s Mike DeNardo reports that it likely won’t be a big deal to regular commuters because they have a routine down.
But casual users may appreciate eliminating the mystery of “is the R5 going to take me to Doylestown or Paoli?” Before, it could have been either one if a rider wasn’t careful. Now, routes are numberless, with just the destination listed on the train and the schedule board.
One thing that regular commuters will have to get used to is the change in color on the trains, signs and platforms. They used to be color-coded, but now they’re changing to teal and grey.
SEPTA’s aim here is to make the trains more user-friendly for visitors, tourists and locals who don’t ride the rails often.
