Tips for Staying Cool in the Heat

The most important thing with heat is you have to use common sense.KYW's medical editor Dr. Brian McDonough reports one of the concerns is for the elderly, because what happens is they might be in a situation where it is too hot and they get a bit dehydrated. And once they are dehydrated it can lead to confusion. Confusion can lead to taking the wrong medication or not getting out of the situation where there is too much heat. That's why it is very important to check in on the elderly and see if there are any problems because they can fall behind rapidly.

If you don't have to be out in the heat don't go out there. If you have to be out there, even for a short period of time, make sure you stay hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids.

In addition to that try to find shaded areas. Do not stand out there dead center in the sun.
