A nonprofit program geared toward youth development through bicycling is conducting summer camps in Philadelphia.
KYW’s John McDevitt reports that kids ages 8 to 13 were in the basement of St. Mary’s Church on the University of Pennsylvania campus today, learning about nutrition and working on their bikes — which they are building from pieces of old bicycles as part of the “Neighborhood Bike Works” summer camp program.

Eleven-year-old Eric Walker of West Philadelphia (above) has been involved with the organization for four years:
“I can really repair bikes real good.”
Camp director Alison Scheiderer:
“This is session two of four. We’ve got four two-weeks sessions. Kids are here eight hours a day for two weeks, learning about bike repair, bike maintenance, and refurbishing a bicycle for themselves to take home. And right now we just had a hub lesson.”
