Sports: Flyers Trade Gagne to Tampa Bay
The Philadelphia Flyers have said goodbye to Simon Gagne.
KYW's Ed Benkin reports that Gagne -- after playing ten full seasons in Philadelphia -- was sent to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for defenseman Matt Walker and a fourth round draft pick.
The popular Gagne recorded 259 goals during his career with the Flyers. He came up big in the post-season this past spring, picking up 12 points. He scored the game-winning goal for the Flyers in their Game 7 victory over Boston in the second round.
The move gives the Flyers some much needed salary cap relief. Gagne was due to make $5.25 million this season. The Flyers are already $2.49 million over the cap and needed to get under the league's $59.4 cap limit by next Monday.
