Pa. AG Discusses Home Improvement Consumer Protection

Pennsylvania's Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act is one year old and the state attorney general's office says it's still early to gauge the impact it's having.

KYW's Mark Abrams reports that nearly 70,000 home improvement contractors throughout the state have registered with the attorney general's office providing background information about their businesses, proof of insurance and agreeing to play by a certain set of rules.

Those rules include offering written contracts for projects, clear disclosures about how long work will take, what materials included and a three-day right to cancel.

Nils Frederickson, is a spokesman for attorney general Tom Corbett:

"This is really the first full construction season where we've had this new law, and typically, we don't start seeing complaints in large numbers about home improvement work until the end of the summer."

Frederickson says consumers can find more information about the law and a list of registered contractors at the attorney general's website.
