Phila. International Records Opens Performance Venue

The building that housed the Sound of Philadelphia is still being repaired from a fire but now the historic Avenue of the Arts building will play host to live performances once a week.

KYW's Jim Melwert reports the souvenir shop on the lower floor of the historic Philadelphia International Records building is now a cafe, officially renamed the TSOP Experience, and every Thursday evening, a night club set-up called TSOP Thursday.

Philadelphia International Records vice president Chuck Gamble:

"It's designed to invite up-and-coming artists to just perform live for the tourists and Philadelphia audience."

During the day, visitors can enjoy what Gamble calls the cafe style atmosphere. And you can stop in and sing karaoke style:

"You walk up on the stage and they have to fire a mic up for you, and sing it, and bring your camera, someone can videotape you and give to your loved ones."
