Phils Remain Winless to Start 2nd Half

Joe Blanton did his part, going 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, but the bats struggled striking out 14 times, in a Phils 4-3 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley. Ryan Madson(L, 2-1) surrendered a solo homerun to Aramis Ramirex in the 8th, breaking the 3-3 tie, which turned out to be the difference.

Homeruns by Ryan Howard, and Shane Victorino were the only signs of life the bats showed in the L. Cubs' pitching mowed down the Phils lineup, 14 strikeouts in all. Jayson Werth, and Ben Francisco leading the way with 3 apiece.

The Phils have lost back to back games to the Cubs to kick off the 2nd half of the season. Pending on the Braves final Friday night, the Phils will trail Atlanta by either 5 1/2, or 6 1/2 games in the NL East. Cole Hamels takes the mound in game 3 of the 4 game set Saturday afternoon at 1:05.
