Improv Comedy Competition in Phila.

by KYW's John Ostapkovich

For the next three nights, Philadelphia is playing host to the World Cup of comedy improvisation.

"This is the Betsy Ross House, where she sewed our first flag with 13 stars, one for every hot dog she could eat in under a minute."

That's from a web video promoting the ComedySportz World Tournament, which runs Thursday through Saturday at World Cafe Live. The material is all clean, says David Dritsas, head of ComedySportz Philadelphia and sometimes toe-tapping:

"When someone does a musical and we get a single word from an audience member and we a four-minute musical that has three different brand news song, like that almost always sells, and gets knocked out of the park right away."

Improv teams from four cities compete two on two for audience or judge approval, all leading up to the championship round late Saturday evening with the Meaningless Cup at stake.
