Search for Missing Pennypack Creek Rafter Resumes

A flash flood watch was lingering during the morning hours on Wednesday, and two rescues had to be attempted along the Pennypack Creek.

KYW's Ian Bush reports that one rescue was successful for a trapped fisherman in Holmesburg on Tuesday (see related story), but recovery operations have resumed along the Pennypack Creek in Northeast Philadelphia, where a Mayfair man fell off a raft last night and is presumed to have drowned.

Crews are searching for 20-year-old Saulius Kvaraciejus of the 7900 block of Craig Street.  Police say the man was rafting with two others in the rain-swollen Pennypack Creek on Tuesday evening when he fell off his raft and could not get back on.

Police department chief inspector Scott Small says Kvaraciejus then struggled to stay afloat but was unable to do so in the swift current.

On Tuesday morning, a man trapped next to the pillar of a rail bridge that crosses the creek in the Holmesburg section of the city was pulled to safety by rescue crews (see related story).
