50 Dogs Removed From South Phila. Rowhome

by KYW's Pat Loeb

The SPCA says a South Philadelphia woman was living with more than 50 Chihuahuas, turning her rowhouse into a wall-to-wall kennel. The woman has surrendered the dogs.

Officers from the SPCA's enforcement division carried out dog after dog from the house in the 700 block of Earp Street, letting loose a foul odor every time the door opened.

Division chief George Bengal says inside there was an "overwhelming" amount of feces.:

"The house is totally unsanitary and currently Licenses and Inspections is condemning the property-- unfit for humans to live in, until it's cleaned out."

Neighbors say there had been complaints about the house for years but one of them, Kelly, says she was surprised to learn how bad conditions in the house were.:

"I really didn't know how many there were. Knowing now, I'm glad that they're coming out because obviously it's way too many."
