Healthy Foods Should Be Top Shelf

by KYW's medical editor Dr. Brian McDonough

There is a very interesting report out of Cornell University that got me thinking. Have you ever thought of how to pack your refrigerator with food?

According to the Cornell doctors, fill your eye-level shelf (or top shelf) with fruits, vegetables, and other nutritious snacks. You're 2.7 times more likely to eat healthy food if it's in your line of sight.

It is the same strategy that supermarkets use to get you to purchase certain foods. We tend to buy what is right out front and easy to see. The same goes for the frig.

Well, I started thinking and thought this makes sense for the entire kitchen -- put the healthy choices out there where they are easy to see. Makes sense, although I am sure there will be times you push past the good stuff and head for the junk.
