Reporting Animal Abuse

by KYW's Nan Talleno

According to the Humane Society of the United States, animal abuse and cruelty can either be deliberate by perpetrating the action or by neglect, by failing to care for an animal in need. And whether that animal is a pet, a stray or wildlife, it IS cruelty.

Tragically, more cruelty cases have surfaced lately.  It is our obligation to report such horrendous activities.  It's been researched that those who abuse animals are likely to be a danger to society as well.  The American Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals reports that every ten seconds an animal is abused and urges you to speak out against what is often a silent crime.

The Pennsylvania SPCA has seen more than enough cases and is presently seeking a reward for the fatal shooting of a chained dog last week in Philadelphia. The PSPCA is offering a $1000 reward for information. Anyone with information on this and other abuse, contact the Pennsylvania SPCA's toll-free, 24-hour cruelty hotline at 866.601.SPCA (7722).
