Braves take 1st From Phils

The Phillies dropped their 7th game in their last 10, losing to the Braves 9-3. Joe Blanton allowing 6 runs, 4 of them earned as he drops to 1-4 on the season.  With the loss the Braves leap past the Phillies and take over 1st place in the NL East by a half game.

Phillies offense was silent again despite Charlie Manuel giving the slumping Jason Werth the day off. As Werth's replacement, Manuel started Ross Gload in right field and also had Gload bat leadoff, moving Shane Victorino to the 5-hole, behind Ryan Howard. Phillies did put up 3 runs in the 7th inning thanks to three straight RBI doubles from Carlos Ruiz, Wilson Valdez, and Ben Francisco.

Phillies turn to Cole Hamels Tuesday night at 7:10 to take on Tim Hudson.
