Eagles Get LB Sims

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired linebacker Ernie Sims from Detroit in a three-team trade that also involves the Denver Broncos.

The Eagles sent a 2010 fifth-round draft pick to Denver, which gave the Lions tight end Tony Scheffler and a 2010 seventh-round pick.

Sims, 25, has spent all four of his NFL seasons with the Lions, who selected him ninth overall in the 2006 draft out of Florida State. He posted more than 100 tackles in his first three years while playing in all 16 games in each, but had 49 tackles over 11 games in 2009.

In 59 career games, Sims has recorded 420 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks and one interception.

Scheffler, 27, had 31 catches for 416 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games last season for the Broncos. In 57 games over four seasons, all with Denver, the former second-round pick has recorded 138 catches for 1,896 yards and 14 touchdowns.
